Yellow isn’t my preferred color, so I tend to stay away from it but guess who loves yellow? Yup, my dear husband, Sean (it's his favorite color by the way). One time, I sent him to the Puget Sound Dahlia Association’s annual tuber sale while I was out of the country, armed with a list of dahlias to buy (I know, he is a trooper). He came home with not one, not two but a handful of yellow varieties (Lord save me).
In 2023, this ball dahlia came out of our breeding patch. I knew right away that I would name it after Sean if it came back stable in year 2. It grows super tall about 5.5 - 6 feet in our garden, it has a super strong stem, and a generous bloomer. I am still not a fan of the yellow but I love the touch of apricot in the center. We are now entering year #3 of trial this year so the time has come to name it.
I remember Sean always telling me that the reason he loves yellow is because it is a happy color. "It's like sunshine", he always says. With that in mind, I think I know the perfect name for this dahlia.
Flower friends, meet.........
